I really like the colorful backgrounds you use. Sometimes they make the faces appear a little dark, stealing their focus. One thing you could try to brighten the faces is use Curves or Levels to make them lighter again. (If you just "lighten", the black will become gray, so Levels or Curves work better.) It's not always necessary, for example your artists choices 2-5 are all fine in that respect. If you don't know what Curves are, check out these tutorials here: http://icon-tutorial.livejournal.com/tag/colouring%3A%20curves. They explain it in a lot of detail. That comm is great - even though lots of the tutorials are old, they're still useful.

The placement of the people in your icons is very good. They're always a little off-center, which makes the icons look more artistic and less like portraits. I also like the ones where the people are even more at the edge, like the Negative Space one. You could experiment with that, but placement is something you're already really good at.

You're also perfect at cutting (masking) people, there's nothing at all to improve there.

I noticed that in a few icons, the aspect ratio seems off, like 002 and 009? The faces look a little too narrow. Make sure to keep the aspect ratio when you resize the images. If that ends up making the people too small (or too big so they don't all fit into the icon), don't worry. Either make them small and go for the negative space, or dare a crop right through someone's face. Experiment a bit, it usually looks cool.

I hope those were some useful hints. If you have any questions, let me know, I'm always glad to help. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your icons.

Ah, thanks for that. Did not realize it at all. But I have been slowly learning how to use curses, levels not so much yet. But thanks for the link, I will also check that out since I am still learning Curves on my own. Which is not always fun to do.

Yeah with placement, I usually just put wherever looks good. Never really sure were to actually place them. Experimenting is fun with that aspect.

Thanks, I had the hardest time learning how to cut (mask) people from pictures, so not easy learning things on your own. Not a lot of tutorials for my program I have found.

Yeah, I am always having problems with the ratio. Can never figure out how to do sizes correctly.

Thanks, they were. Will do. And thanks for the offer. :)
